Your complete JEE preparation playbook
JEE Main + Advanced — strategy, study plans, subject mastery, PYQs and pitfalls. Built with toppers' frameworks.
What is JEE Main?
National-level entrance for NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and B.Tech admissions across India. Conducted twice a year (Jan + April) by NTA. Computer-based, MCQ + numerical.
What is JEE Advanced?
The gateway to IITs. Only top 2.5 lakh JEE Main scorers can attempt it. Two papers, harder concepts, multi-correct + integer + paragraph types.
Main vs Advanced
Main tests speed + accuracy on standard problems. Advanced tests deep conceptual application + multi-step reasoning. Different mindset, same syllabus.
Pick your study plan
Choose the timeline that matches your situation.
- 1Weeks 1-2: Build a chapter-wise revision schedule
- 2Weeks 3-6: Complete NCERT + class notes for all 3 subjects
- 3Weeks 7-9: PYQ + topic tests every weekend
- 4Weeks 10-12: 12 full mocks (alternate JEE Main / Advanced)
- 5Final 5 days: Formula sheet + mental rehearsal only
Subject-wise strategy
Physics
- → Master HC Verma + DC Pandey
- → Mechanics + Electromagnetism = 50% weight
- → Solve numericals, not just theory
- → Modern physics is high-yield, easy
- → Diagram every problem before solving
Recommended books
HC Verma Vol 1+2 · DC Pandey · Irodov (Advanced)
Chemistry
- → NCERT is BIBLE for Inorganic
- → Organic = mechanisms, not memorisation
- → Physical = practice numericals daily
- → Make a reactions cheatsheet
- → Revise NCERT 3 times before exam
Recommended books
NCERT (must) · MS Chouhan (Organic) · OP Tandon
Mathematics
- → Calculus + Coordinate = 40% weight
- → Speed comes from pattern recognition
- → Keep a 'mistake notebook'
- → Algebra builds your foundation
- → Solve 20+ problems daily — no skipping
Recommended books
Cengage series · Arihant Skills in Math · RD Sharma (basics)
PYQ strategy (the secret weapon)
- Solve last 10-15 years of JEE Main + Advanced PYQs
- Pattern-match: ~30% of questions repeat in concept
- Time yourself — JEE Main = 1 min/question average
- Maintain a separate notebook for trick questions
- Re-attempt failed PYQs every 2 weeks
- Use NTA Abhyas app for free official mocks
Mistakes to avoid
- ✗ Hopping between too many books
- ✗ Skipping NCERT for Chemistry
- ✗ Ignoring previous year analysis
- ✗ Studying without timed practice
- ✗ Late-night cram, no sleep schedule
- ✗ Comparing yourself with peers daily
- ✗ Mock test without analysis = waste
- ✗ Solving only easy problems for ego
